#MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

Today’s #ThrowbackThursday takes you back, to before where we are up to so far in my #mediation journey but is relevant to #mentalhealthawarenessweek and I wanted to share this with you.

From the outside this photo shows a big smile, it shows someone who is off to a have a coffee with a friend. Someone who looks like they are in control and that they can’t wait to get out into the world and tackle the day head on!

What the photo doesn’t show is what hides behind the smile, what it doesn’t show is the anxiety bubbling away which on many days left me locked in the house, what it doesn’t show is the person who would close her office door at work and cry, what it doesn’t show is the person who felt she had to carry on to keep everyone else going, what it doesn’t show is the pure fear this person felt whenever she had to go for simple coffee with a friend or start a casual conversation.

What it does show is that sometimes the biggest smile can hide the biggest struggles. I’m sharing this to let others know that it’s ok not to be ok and once you talk about it, it can make all the difference. I’m always here to reach out to. So here is my virtual green ribbon, wearing with pride this week, to let you know that I understand and will be here to simply listen #mentalhealthmatters
